instagram filters

Share of the Week– Viddy

I don’t know about you, but I love taking pictures and videos on my iPhone.

And I’m fairly certain, no matter what your device, you’re as happy as I am having the option to capture absolutely ANY memory on the go with just the push of a button.

If you enjoy pictures and social media, you’ve likely been using Instagram, Hipstamatic, or one of several other picture-editing/sharing Apps.

If you are not using one of these Apps currently, your pictures (no offense) are likely “ehhhh” …… using one of these Apps, however, instantly allows you to go from “ehhh” to “edgy”, and “mehhh” to “MY GOD!” in seconds, simply by applying one of the pre-engineered filters to your photo.

I was blown away a few weeks ago how Instagram turned two very, very simple iPhone pictures I took of while exiting the LAX US Post Office, into two posters I’d happily hang in my room:

Airplane overhead in approach to LAX
BEFORE
On Approach after Instagram
AFTER
Into the Sunset: BEFORE
BEFORE
Into the Sunset after Instagram
AFTER

I might be too easily entertained, but in terms of alignment, composure, and quality these turned out great considering they were taken on an iPhone 3GS.

As you can see I enjoy taking pictures, but what takes up most of the memory on my phone and computer is video. My theory is this:

If “a picture can say a thousand words,” then by simple multiplication, my camera taking a video at 30 frames per second is capturing 449,000 more memories in a short 15 second clip (30 FPS*1,000 memories per picture*15 second=450,000-1,000=449,000). Why settle with pictures?

And what do you use to give your videos that extra something like Instagram does for your photos???

Introducing Viddy!! “A simple way for anyone to capture, produce, and share beautiful videos with the world. Record a moment of your life, give it that cinematic look with our production packs, and share it with those who matter most.”

Viddy applies the same concepts that have driven over 5 million Instagram downloads to date; in fact, it’s first week after soft launch, Viddy had 15,000 daily downloads, not far from Instagram’s 16,000 daily downloads after launch.

As you can see, the Venice-based startup draws many similarities with Instagram’s user interface. It makes sense though–many people understand photo-sharing Apps, and video-sharing/editing is a natural progression.

Viddy features 15 second clips, re-touched by one of the diverse filters, and also allows you to play with the audio as well, leaving the original sound or laying in some music. With one touch you can upload your finished video to Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Foursquare, and Tumblr (with the last two coming very soon).

It is a must have App, and if you are from SoCal, you are supporting a local Venice business. I’ll be honest, in the first 20 minutes after downloading, I made 7 videos–what…I couldn’t help it…it’s too much fun!

Give Viddy a try, and start sharing!!
